Event Details

With no prior experience in farming, Mary Koch and her family bought her first Dutch Belt Cow 3 years ago to help manage the grass in her meadows. She will share the story of how their family has learned about cows thru day by day experience and how having the cows has brought a wonderful presence on their 5 acre property, improved the meadow grasses,  provided wonderful manure to enrich the gardens, plenty of raw milk for family use as well as feeding 2 pigs a year, and the abundance of  raw milk dairy products that they have learned to make.

Mary’s workshop is so wonderful because anyone who is interested in homesteading but feeling intimidated by the responsibility of having animals on their property will get the opportunity to see how non-farmers can grow into the experience with terrific success. Start with a chicken and work your way up to a cow! This workshop will start at Thyme In The Country, Mary’s certified green B&B and then we will carpool over to Triform’s gorgeous teaching kitchen in the Phoenix Center for cheesemaking.

These workshops are deliberately designed to be low tech and home-scale and emphasize hands-on-learning so that you can easily incorporate these kitchen arts into your daily or weekly routines. All food demonstrations will send you home with lots of information and samples, when possible. Please peruse the entire schedule - you may want to take more than one!

Annual RFFP membership is $50 and will discount all upcoming events and classes. Discounts are offered for farmers, students and seniors, please use the info email to inquire. We are trying to keep these events as affordable as possible without compromising our teaching staff or materials. We are keeping these classes small and they will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Any questions, please contact info@farmandfood.org.

Let's have some fun!
